Discussion on Recycling and Resource Management and FY26 Solid Waste Service Charges

Council met on May 5th afternoon with DEP to discuss Solid Waste management and proposed budget FY26. Staff report is available on Montgomery County Council website and the video of the session in YouTube.

Council discussed various questions with the DEP at the session on May 5th, incl. what is driving the increase in Solid Waste Service Charge - see last page of the Staff Report:

Councilmembers expressed their frustration about being asked to make a decision on increasing the Solid Waste Service charges while having no information from DEP about the planned facility (see the last column in the table above).

According to the DEP, consultant's report will be published within a month or two.  Keith Levchenko, Senior Legislative Analyst, suggested that there will be a public briefing of County Council by the DEP on the conclusions of the consultant's report.
