Staff report that can be found on Montgomery County website, describes that the upgrade will "substantially increase the processing capacity of the facility (from 80 tons per day to 200-240 tons per day)" and this is justified by " the future addition of “single stream” processing equipment to process recyclables from other jurisdictions" (page 4).
DEP has not provided any details as of March'2025 about the evaluation of health and environmental impacts of the potential increased volume of waste processed in Shady Grove Transfer Station which is located in the middle of a neighborhood, just a few miles away from various elementary schools, preschools, parks, hospitals etc.
